This book is a genre that I don't normally read. That said, I was pleasantly surprised. The wager between Marc and Sera is a solid hook that gets the story rolling, and I loved the characterization, both of the main characters and those in the subplot. I'm excited to read the next book from Alyssa Linn Palmer.Product details

A smart, gritty, atmospheric novel in the Noir tradition. Paris jazz club singer Sera Durand, is drawn into a hopeless situation when she tries to pay off a debt to a gangster using any and every means possible. Throw in, Marc, a knight in rusty armor with a morally questionable agenda of his own, a innocent/corrupt dichotomy of supporting characters, and a debauched wager both Sera and Marc are determined to win, and the situation spirals deliciously out of control.
The Paris Game embodies all the qualities of a good noir flawed and morally ambiguous characters, double lives, secret agendas, betrayal and treachery. The tension builds slowly within the first few chapters and kept me on edge right to the end. The sizzling sex scenes are a perfect complement to the gritty world of gangsters and the seedy underbelly of the black market art trade. A wonderful debut that adds a fresh voice to a typically male-dominated genre. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!

Sera finds herself in a dangerous situation after borrowing money from a gangster. She works in a seedy area of the city where Marc, an old love, appears back in her life, but she is distracted by the attentions of a handsome stranger. Soon, she suspects neither of them is the man she believes them to be. With her future depending on the result of a wager made with Marc, Sera's well-being hangs by a thread. Can Sera reclaim control of her life? Or are there too many factors working against her? And will Marc prove a help or a hindrance?
Palmer has written an intriguing tale and I look forward to what she has in store for her readers in the next book in the series.
One of the things I loved about The Paris Game was its ability to make me feel as if I were there; as I imagined, in my mind, Paris in the 30's. Ms. Palmer set the stage so well. The story provides the reader with great characters, lots of sexual tension and suspense.
We learn about Sera and Marc's past together and follow their story through Marc's questionable business dealings and Sera's problems with her unsavory boss and a somewhat nasty affair. There's also some matchmaking and an interesting wager!
All in all, an excellent story that will keep you involved as you take the journey to find out if Sera and Marc can overcome all the obstacles and achieve their HEA. I really enjoyed The Paris Game - it fits my definition of noir romance perfectly. I look forward to subsequent books in the series.

A brilliantly crafty tale about love, treachery, underworld which will take you on a roller coaster ride from Paris to London. The Paris Game by Alyssa Linn Palmer is a thoroughly gripping and brain-rackingly thrilling tale about Sera and Marc.

Sera, a jazz singer, land herself on trouble, when she had to pay off a debt to a very bad gangster. Seeing the situation, Marc, having his own agenda in mind, comes to rescue Sera from this gritty situation. Although he knew that that would cost a lot, and since both had a very dark past, eventually the whole situation spins out-of-control and both of them gets more tangled into the messy situation because of their past and hence provoking more drama and thrill to the already pot-boiling plot.
The author has written this story in a flawless way, by not giving away too many details at a single time and also adding too many twists and turns in every pages is what made the book more compelling to read. The characters were absolutely perfect and apt to the plot. Not to mention about the hot, sizzling chemistry between Marc and Sera, which will make you more insanely hooked to his book. All-in-all, it’s an amazing book, with a pot-boiling plot, which promises to give you some action and hot romance.
Grab this book, if you want to go on a sexy, smart, thrilling romantic ride!
Though this is not my normal reading style, a friend referred it and I was blown away. Great characters, plot, pacing and superb writing. A MUST read!

I chose to read this book because of the Tiffany Reisz recommendation. I love her so I figured she had good taste. She was right. This book was sexy and suspenseful. I am now a big fan of Ms. Palmer now.
Marc and Sera have tough choices, emotional baggage and a high-risk bet. It's dark, but it's noir, so it wouldn't be a cafe au lait, would it? Nope.
But if you want the dark, the sexy and all the rest - this book satisfies those cravings.
Yum! I wish allowed half points, because I'd give this a 4.5 if I could!
